Singapore, 24 August 2016 – The sixth edition of the Singapore Press Holdings Foundation (SPH Foundation) National Para-Swimming Championships will return to Toa Payoh Swimming Complex on 27 August. The event, a highlight in the SDSC's annual sporting calendar, is jointly organised by the Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC). It is now into its 35th year and is aimed at creating opportunities for persons with disabilities to swim at a competitive level.
The event's Guest-of-Honour is Mr Lim Puay Tiak, Board Member of SDSC.
116 para-athletes from 16 special schools, associations and clubs are expected to compete. The participants are assigned to different categories and events based on their disabilities, and will participate in all four swim strokes, as well as the freestyle relay. Paralympians Theresa Goh and Yip Pin Xiu, who will be representing Singapore at the Rio paralympics next month, have taken part and excelled in past editions of the competition.
