SPH Foundation launches inaugural photography contest on sustainability

Singapore, 13 July 2020 - Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) Foundation is launching its inaugural photography contest today.

Titled “A Sustainable Tomorrow” and organised in partnership with The Straits Times, Lianhe Zaobao and Photonico – an Asian-centric digital marketplace with over 35,000 high-quality stock images and access to millions of images from SPH’s archives dating back to 1948 – the contest aims to encourage the community to express themselves through photography and raise awareness on protecting the environment.

It is open to all above 13 years old, especially aspiring photographers and photography enthusiasts. To participate, contestants will be required to post their photograph on the theme “Sustainability” on Instagram, hashtag #sphfphotocontest, and tag and follow @singaporepressholdings. Each photograph must be accompanied by a caption.

The judging panel consists of SPH Foundation Director Mr Yatiman Yusof, The Straits Times Picture Editor Ms Stephanie Yeow, Chinese Media Group NewsHub Photography Editor Mr Lee Tiah Khee and Mr David Tay, the first Asian Directory Board Member of the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP) and one of the most influential figures in Singapore photography. The judges will be looking out for photographs relating to home recycling ideas, green spaces, healthy living, eco-friendly designs, biodiversity, etc. that are artistically and beautifully shot.

Ms Ginney Lim, General Manager of SPH Foundation, said: “SPH Foundation hopes that the contest will showcase storytelling talents through photography and inspire interest in photography. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words. By choosing a theme on sustainability, it is also our hope that the contest can raise awareness on climate change and eco-friendly lifestyles.”

The prizes are as follows:
1st prize: $3,000 cash
2nd prize: $1,000 cash
3rd prize: $500 cash
5 consolation prizes: $100 cash each
